Review Extract from Review By: stretcher Curious Inserion
You capture the mood and emulate the haughtiness of writers of the age - when I say that I mean the automatic assumption of superiority of the Dickens class, however sympathetic.
The writing and grammar seem faultless and fit the time admirably.
If I had to remark - I only felt a little pain from Dickens's foot / ankle. Apart from the opening para, I only heard door knocks and a bell. No homely crackling fires, singing kettles, no horses and carriage clatter, weather hot, wet or cold and, do I have to go back? I did but no smells - a filthy virulent age. Five senses?
I assumed they were there - I can relate to the background from my own store of mood and images. Can all? I daresay the mood is designed to give that dream like quality? A trip across country is a weary nightmare today. Worth a line or two.
Minor picks. Should a comma follow an exclamation mark? (!,) And shouldn't Dickens always be Dickens - not sometimes Mr Dickens unless addressed as such in dialogue?
Very good - classy work - high marks
