78 reasons why your book may never be published & 14 reason why it just might.

by Pat Walsh ISBN 0-14-303565-7

This book may have the longest title in the history of 'How to' books, but it is worth reading.

"Here are two of the 100 good reasons to buy this book:
1) You want to be published writer. this book gives it to you straight.
2) You can trust the author, he's a man in the know.

Pat Walsh the founding editor of the independent publisher MacAdam/Cage.

The book is broken up chapters with titles like A cold, hard look:
'Your book isn't good enough.'
'You think to highly of yourself.'
'You listen to false praise.'
'You don't know what you're talking about.'
'You can't tell a story.'

Read it and learn, there's hell of a lot more to being a writer than just writing one book.
The worst thing that can happen to a writer is to become a Writer. Mary McCarthy

The fact is, writing can be done only during the time when one ought to be doing something else. Isabel Paterson

Goodness, those 'cold hard look' chapters don't sound like they'd apply to anyone I know.

Me too! Trouble is, it can be an avoidance technique: "I'll just read this first before I get on with my masterpiece..." But the Pat Walsh book is great. I'd recommend it to anyone who hopes to be published.
